Identify the exact car
Older cars may have changes that are not obvious from the model name. Keep the vehicle identity, relevant specification and known modifications in the file. Verify details with appropriate records and expertise before ordering parts; a year range alone may not establish compatibility.
Keep work traceable
Record what was done, by whom, when and at what mileage. Keep parts details and photographs where they explain the work. Separate a previous owner’s account from evidence you have actually seen, and keep gaps in the story visible.
Use it within its limits
An older car may need different handling, maintenance or storage considerations from a newer daily driver. Use model-specific guidance and a suitable specialist when necessary. Nostalgia is not a substitute for checking condition or suitability for a journey.
Preserve the evidence
Keep original documents protected and make labelled copies for regular reference. A timeline of ownership and work helps the next custodian understand the car without repeating every investigation. Do not claim originality, restoration quality or provenance beyond the supporting evidence.
